High blood pressure is probably more common than you realize. Unfortunately, a lot of people walk around with the signs of high blood pressure in their every day life and they don’t even know it. This is tragic because prolonged high blood pressure can lead to some devastating outcomes. If you know what the signs of high blood pressure are you may be able to spot them and seek the medical attention of a doctor when you might not have otherwise.

Unfortunately, the majority of the population will not experience any signs of high blood pressure and if they do, they are not significant enough for them to seek the help of a doctor. High blood pressure is often called “the silent killer” and that is because so often the high blood pressure negatively impacts the body before the person even knows that they have the condition. Most people do not experience any symptoms associated with high blood pressure until organ damage has been done or if there is brain swelling. At this point it can be hard to get blood pressure under control.
If you do spot the signs of high blood pressure in yourself or someone else, you should see a doctor right away. With a doctor’s help you can change your eating habits, the amount of exercise that you get, and even take medications that will lower your blood pressure in a safe and effective way. Though we have only been taking blood pressure for about 100 years the science behind treating high blood pressure has come a long way, even when treating those that have been living with it for awhile without knowing it. It’s always easier to treat high blood pressure in the earlier stages of the problem, but there are always things that you can do to make controlling your blood pressure possible.
Adults should have their blood pressure taken at least once every two years. Most doctors take blood pressure measurements at every doctor appointment, but it should be done at physicals at the very least. Because there are not symptoms you need your doctor to take these measurements for you. Many times a doctor will catch high blood pressure when the patient had absolutely no idea.
